Junior Championships 2015


Mikey Mitchell (above) won both the scratch and the handicap trophy’s. Mikey set himself up in the morning round with a solid 74, nett 70. Nick Matthews in second with a 85, nett 76. In the afternoon Mikey had a shaky start with a 7 on the par 4 first, but then recovered to play some superb golf coming in with a gross 70, nett 66. Mikey took the scratch trophy which he had won on 2 past occasions with a total 144 from Nick Matthews, 164. He also took the handicap for the first time with a total 136, from Nick Matthews 146.


Congratulations to Josh Elmore winning the Junior Scratch and Handicap Championships, and nearest the pin as well. Well done to all competitors Sam Spicer, Mikey Mitchell, Nick Matthews, and Dylan King.

On Sunday 10th November 2013, Newport Golf Club held it’s Junior Presentation Evening to celebrate the achievements of the juniors over the year. Before the presentation a Europe v America mini Ryder Cup was held with Mikey Mitchells Europe Team, beating Toby Hill’s American Team 3.5 points to 0.5 points. It has been a good year for Newport Juniors with the top four most improved players in the club being juniors and 8 out of the top 20, with Toby Hill winning the most improved player reducing his handicap from 16 to 7. Trophies were presented by Club Captain and Junior Organiser Wayne Matthews.
