Captain Mark King and his wife, Julie, hosted Newport Golf Club’s Annual Dinner at the Lakeside Park Hotel and Spa. After the dinner, which 76 members and their partners attended, Mark presented the trophies won by those members present.

President Larry O’Brien thanked Mark and Julie for arranging the dinner and presented Mark and Ladies Captain, Jenni Le Mouton, with a cheque for £761 for their join charity Beaulieu House. Larry said he also had a cheque for the Joe Ellis Trust for £320 which was part of the fund raising at Mark’s Captain’s Day and a cheque for the Last Year’s Past Captain, Wayne Matthews who had raised £722 for the Kissy Puppy Charity. Larry told the guests the Ladies had already donated £750 to EMH and £272 to the Breast Cancer Campaign.

Larry said he was proud to be President of a club who had raised a total of £2,348 for charity last year and £2,577 this year and thanked the members for their generosity in helping those less fortunate than themselves.

The speeches were completed by Past Captain, Pete Squibb who raised a further £144 for Beaulieu House by fining the guests for various misdemeanours!

After dinner there was a disco and casino games.

Charity Work 2013 - Hospice

A cheque was presented to the Hospice on behalf of the Ladies section for £1000 for the charity work in 2013.

Newport Golf Club’s Lady Captain for 2013, Sheila James chose Earl Mountbatten Hospice as her charity for her year.

Sheila had a special reason to raise funds for the hospice as her late husband, Malcolm, was a patient there the previous year. Sheila made the decision to take on the role of Lady Captain as she felt her fellow lady golfers had been such a help to her during her Malcolm’s illness and she chose the hospice as a thank you for the care and support she had received from them at a difficult time.

Sheila presented £1000 to Daniella Johnson from Earl Mountbatten Hospice and made special thanks to the Ladies Section who had donated raffle prizes and made cakes which other lady members enjoyed after their game of golf. She also thanked the Senior Section at Newport and her fellow lady golfers, who had supported her raffles when visiting Newport Golf Club. She also thanked Bev Whorwood who had donated sponsorship money for completing a 10 kilometre run and Jackie Mouat who had taken the hospice bucket around to swell the funds.
