The Newport Golf Club Academy and Practice Course

The aim of the Newport Golf Club academy is to provide a safe and secure environment where golf can be played by everyone, from beginners to experienced golfers.

The driving range is laid out conventionally with mats to play off, but where the academy has the advantage is that it also has three full length holes laid out with tees, fairways, rough and greens.

This means that a player is able to put into practice what they have learned on the driving bays, with no need to go onto the actual course until you feel you are ready.

The facility is popular with schools and there are sessions every week especially for youngsters. Anyone from 5 years old onwards can be taught and everyone is given individual instruction to make sure they make steady and satisfactory progress. Schools that have already attended have been satisfied with the consistent level of successful tuition.

Visitors can use the course and range to warm up before they play at no extra cost, as their green fee entitles them use all of the club's facilities.

We have free Open Days throughout the year on the academy course and everyone is welcome to come and try the game of golf. Open Days are absolutely free, with all equipment provided, and many people of all ages have taken advantage of this unique opportunity to try the game under the watchful eye of an experienced golfing professional. Please see the local press or our Events page for details.

The practice area is supported by Bardon Vectis who make it possible for us to offer the local community and its schools the chance to play golf amongst the inspirational landscape of St. Georges Down.
