BRASS MONKEYS 2016.

The first trophy of the year has been won by Keith Fryer and Andy Wheeler, pictured with club Captain Terry Phillips.

The Brass Monkeys is played as a Stableford with aggregate scores counting.

On a cold day, with the course very wet underfoot, the pair triumphed with a tremendous score of 78 points. Nearest rivals, on 69 points, were Rex Ringer and John Lee. In third, on 68, were Shaun Ford and Dave Stockbridge.

Congratulations to Keith and Andy, as well as the other 18 pairs that saw the match through in the worsening conditions!!

CAPTAINS BLOG

MAY/JUNE/JULY/AUGUST 2016

So they say time flies when your having fun, these last few months have been a bit of a blur whith trophy comps, league matches, club invitationals,Captains Day, Presidents Day not to mention squeezing in a family holiday!! These months are obviously the golfing season and i have had a great time being involved with all sections of the club. Also fund raising for my charities and the club fund which is going well so far.

My Captains Day was hit by thunder and lightning but it didnt dappen spirits as the final few departed the clubhouse well oiled just before midnight a day i will remember for a long time to come.

In the leagues we did not do very well with the A team finishing bottom and the B team second from bottom but as the saying goes its the taking part that counts!! A BIG THANK YOU to all my players who turned out each week to play the matches.

APRIL 2016

It’s been quite a productive month, the ball dispenser has arrived and I am just sorting out the best way to install it. I had ten new members at the new members evening this is very much welcome and lets hope we can get another 10 or even 20 to help with falling numbers.

The course is looking good considering the weather conditions we have had. Dave has scraped off the top layer of the fifteenth path which is a start to improving the surface. The course works are much needed and we will need to think about communicating with the membership about more works in June or July as this was not done in September last year Dave assures me that as long as the weather is warm the greens will recover within a week so hopefully this will not interfere with members play.

The inter club league starts 5th May and I have hi hopes of NGC doing well this year.

Captain’s drive in was a great fun day and we raised £188 for charity, which we split 1/3 to Sandra’s Charity and the other 2/3 split between my two charities. Just incase you didn’t know Sandra and me won the wooden spoons!!!

A big thank you to everybody that helped out towards and on the day.

I am looking at holding a three club and a putter comp on the last Friday of the month and incorporate the 100 club draw which looks like being renamed the 50 club!!! Adam has agreed to do basket meals for £5 so hopefully we can create a good night. I would also like to do a happy hour on those nights say another 10% off between 5:00 and 6:00.

I have played quite a bit of golf with the seniors, the alliance, our own comps and also reached the third round with Yo Farrer in the Daily Mail Foursomes!!

It is scary how fast the year is going I am almost half way through my captaincy but I have to say I am loving it!!

MARCH 2016

The past few weeks I have enjoyed playing golf socially with some of the seniors and in their monthly stableford competition which is a great opportunity for them all to get together and is open to all seniors. I have also played in the alliance and along with Yo Farrer have got to the third round of the Daily Mail Foursomes.

Finally the weather and diary allowed us to hold the Captains drive in. This was a great fun day with 42 members taking part in an overs and unders competition and some took part afterwards in the infamous Wedge On The Shed. A raffle helped towards the Captains charities. A BIG THANKYOU to all who helped and participated on the day.

Course works have begun and with some help with the weather will speed up this necessary process.

The inter club league starts 5th May if you would like to play please let me know. I am looking forward to the coming season and would like to see NGC win the league.

I had the pleasure of holding my second new members meeting and on behalf of the membership welcome them all to our great club.

FEBRUARY 2016

As the weather continues to halt our golf the President, Vice Captain and myself have started to plan a makeover on the driving range with a deadline of the 19th March. This will include painting, cleaning and revamping the under cover bays. Re-instating the practice green and a bunker for a short game area. New 150,200 & 250yds markers. Target nets to aim at and improve you’re chipping & short game. Also a new path to the driving range. If you are able to help in any way please get in touch with any of us.

I have started the N.G.C 100 CLUB please see notice boards for details for your chance to win cash prizes every month.

The gents section committee are still looking for a secretary please contact me if you are interested.

Hopefully the weather will change soon so we can all get some golf in!!!!
